The usual cycle is to transfer heat from a building by an evaporation of the refrigerant in the coil (absorbing heat) located inside the air handler and then compression of the refrigerant at the condenser coil, located outside the building, thereby releasing the heat. With a Heat Pump System, the compression takes place inside the coils in the air handler and heat is released into the air passing through the coils and into the conditioned space. This cycle can also be reversed so the conditioned space's air can be cooled.
